Pharis wins final SSS race

Jon Pharis burns them down, celebrating a win in the final LNR SSS race.

The Camping World 150 presented by RVs.com was the final race for the old Cup cars on Superspeedways on Thursday nights, and the drivers sent it off in true LNR fashion.  Brett Black (29) took the pole for the event with a blistering 50.090 lap.  There was a lot of give and take in the first segment that saw the field divide into two packs.  A minor contact incident caused a spin and a caution right before green flag pit stops were about to start.  This bunched the field back up, which caused a 2nd caution on the restart.  After that, the race ran green up until 5 to go.  Quick green flag pit stops by Jon Pharis (53) and Randy James (99) put them out front, where they managed to stay until Steve Kelley (12) and Chris Swett (28) got together to bring out the final caution of the event.  Pharis was the biggest mover of the night, gaining 16 spots en route to his win.  Greg Netherwood (80) ended up being the biggest loser on the night, dropping 10 spots to his 13th place finish.

After the event, Series Director Shawn Becher said, “I want to thank everyone for coming out tonight.  It was a fun race and a fitting way to send the SS Series off.  After 3 1/2 seasons of directing our SS Series, I’ll be moving up to the Cup division, and I hope I do as good a job there as people tell me I have done here.  Having this many drivers consistently show up to race for an entire season really makes it enjoyable, and it makes it worth it for me. Thank you.”

Next season, Thursday nights move to the Thursday Night Thunder CTS SS Series to be directed by Jon Doble.
